Orpheus Mother, Hades and Eurydice having a discussion in the land of the dead
Orpheus’ Mother: “Open yet nothing is open,
he looses himself in a maze,
he does not master”
"Oh no", don’t go there, stay away !! (shouted the choir)
Hades: “Friendly yet not friendly,
No rest for him,
he is no friend to himself”
"Why, why??!" (said the children while hiding their eyes)
Eurydice: “Loving yet not loving,
it moves like water,
if only he knew how it slips”
"I cannot love him, leave me here!!" (said the woman)
The Choir of Old Women: “True yet not true
Clear sight is beyond him,
left is silence”
"Look at the sea until you see" (said the old)
The Person who knows: “Private yet not private,
when the screen is shut,
and he is alone”
"How does it feel?" (said the person who knows)
I once overheard this conversation among old friends, but it cannot be repeated in all, it seems. Left are the above sing-sing lines, which stand out, but are strange, don't you think? But I do remember some of the remaining conversation, and will share it with you, should you read this:
"Friends might be lost for awhile, but at stake are not the essential friendly dealings of honesty and lifelong respect, I have that!!", I heard the one said to the other.
"No you don't, not after all this, make it known that you are here, and not hiding", said the other, in answer, and I wonder what he meant. "If you don't, the door will shut in your face", he continued.
And as to prove his point he got up and walked out, throwing a look over his shoulders, as if to say, "you should have known better".
I really would have liked to know what the whole deal was about. What a sad mess.
